Log Burner Cleaning

Have you checked your Log Burner?

There is no doubt log burners look great and add character to any home. Some people do however underestimate or simply not realise the importance of regular maintenance.

Buring wood can create a build up of tar, even seasoned wood with a lower moisture content can have high sap levels which when burnt is carried up in the smoke with the residue condensing, due to the temperature change, on the sides of the flue.

The build up is more like a syrup consistency rather than soot and as the fire is repeatedly lit this substance builds up and will need to be removed, it can even work its way into the surrounding walls in an unlined flue. With incredibly high temperatures in a flue this isn't an issue that can be ignored.
